Even the busiest of schedules have room for the addition of a few healthy habits that—in time—could lead to a gradual fitness routine and better overall health.

Top Central Coast fitness expert Julian Varela with Equilibrium Fitness believes five simple tweaks to your current lifestyle is all it takes to get started. Once these core adjustments are made, most people should find it relatively easy to evolve into a more complete fitness regimen.

"Take it slowly and don't set yourself up for failure," said Varela. "Having a plan is essential for those serious about getting started."

Quick tips for adding fitness to your daily routine:

  1. Asses your health goals
  2. Take added steps to shave calories (explained in video)
  3. Start slowly, integrating only a bit at a time
  4. Get social support
  5. Get expert advice from a trainer or fitness coach

Varela says you don't need to have a trainer every day of the week to gain big benefits. Even the occasional instruction can help keep you on track with constant improvement.
